NOTICE: 2022 Summerset RESCHEDULED!

Due to Tropical Depression Nine’s probable forecast impacting just a day or two before the regatta and likely impacting our area and the movement and preparedness of participating boats, the decision has been made to reschedule the 2022 Summerset Regatta.

All scheduled events will be changed to the weekend of October 14-16, 2022 with the venues and activities remaining the same. Stay safe everyone!

Welcome to the 56th (2021) Summerset Regatta

AHOY FELLOW SAILORS AND WELCOME TO THE 56th SUMMERSET REGATTA!

2021 Summerset

CMCS is pleased to host the 56th Summerset Regatta for the sailors of SW Florida.  The net proceeds from the event will go toward Youth Sailing Programs in our respective areas.  We pray to the weather Gods to be kind to us and provide just enough wind to make it a fun event for participants and observers alike.

The Summerset Regatta is only as successful as the folks who are willing to participate!   We elected to return to our traditional schedule of events each evening for the racers, crews, and cruisers.  We’ve made some changes that we hope will help make it easier for everyone to have a great time on, and off, the water.

Cruisers and guests are welcome and encouraged to participate with all the events, AND, there is no separate fee for their participation.  All the events are open to everyone with  “Ala Carte” pricing.  Pay-as-you-go if you will.   Please note,  the Lou Tilley Distance Race has been removed from this year’s Summerset race schedule as we feel this race deserves its own separate event.

Once again, Bonita Bill’s is our host venue for the Skippers Meeting on Friday the 1st of October with a slight change in our menu ~ complementary “Wings and Fixin’s” with the ever-flowing beer Keg.  Our other events are being held at the Original Shrimp Dock at Salty Sam’s Marina Resort.  Saturday following a full day of racing, a Lite meal will be served. We’ll tap the Keg at 1800 hrs.  We’re doing things  “Ala Carte” with a cost of $20 per participant.  Music by Dueling Pianos for everyone’s enjoyment.  Time to share all those “Sea Tales”!

The Sunday  “Summerset Chowder Awards”  event is at the same location with CHOWDER and Fixin’s (hence the name ~ Caloosahatchee Marching & Chowder Society)  at a cost of $10 each.  We want everyone to celebrate their victories and adventures, so priced accordingly to make it possible for the Skippers and their crews to participate in the celebration.

So, sign up and plan to enjoy a great weekend of sailing comradery with the sailors of SW Florida for the 56th Annual Summerset Regatta!

Fair winds & Calm Seas,

Bev Duff, Vice Commodore of Summerset
& the 2021 Summerset Committee

THANK YOU FOR BEING AN IMPORTANT PART OF THE 56th SUMMERSET REGATTA

2020 Summerset Recap & Results

2020 Summerset Recap & Results

To all Captains,
Thank you all for supporting Summerset. Based on the radio chatter I believe that everyone had a
great time and the sailing competition was the right mix of fun and fierce.
Attached are the results.

First, the Lou Tilley Classic cruising race on Sunday was won by Gopher Baroque – Jason Pim and family. See attached for the rest of the results.

Next, thank you to all the racers that came from Tampa, Punta Gorda, Naples and Marco Island. It’s exciting to see the fleet out on the water on such a beautiful weekend . The drizzle on Sunday kept all the sunscreen in the lockers – perfect!

Obsession once again won the Spinnaker class, followed by Pendragon then T-bone

Non spin was won by Mae-B, followed by Eroica then Essence

And Cruising was won by Castaways, followed by Serendipity then No Name.

Special shout out to Castaways who absolutely crushed the pursuit race on Sunday (5 minutes ahead of the next boat) moving into first place. Their boat also won the loudest, the most cheering, and the best dancers. Nice Tri was racing for the first time and came close to winning the most cheering making an excellent effort on Saturday, but were outdone on Sunday when the committee could hear Castaways coming four minutes before crossing the finish line.

The pursuit race is amazing – the starts are staggered starting as early as 10:00 and as late as 11 :48 . Yet 12 of the 19 boats ended up finishing within 10 minutes of each other.

I want to thank all of you for your support and the fun times we have had. As I said on the race course, after four years as racing commodore I am stepping away. We are going to start a sailing adventure and take the boat north to the Erie Canal, the Trent Canal, and into Canada and Georgian Bay.

from Captain James – Rear Commodore of Racing

What a great weekend with fantastic weather and a terrific turnout for the 54th annual Summerset Regatta! 53 boats participated, either racing or cruising throughout the weekend of October 4-6. Hundreds of sailors celebrated together at the Friday Captain’s Party at Bonita Bill’s, the Saturday Cocktail Party at Nauti Parrot and the Sunday Awards Banquet at the Original Shrimp Dock, all on Fort Myers Beach.

Wind and weather conditions were favorable allowing for three buoy courses on Saturday and a coastal distance race on Sunday. With boats divided into six classes, the race committee aboard James Gallagher’s Calusa successfully ran 17 starts in two days. The competition was terrific and congratulations to all the captains and crew who proved their skills!

Most Summerset participants hail from the Fort Myers, Cape Coral, Punta Gorda, or Naples/Marco areas and are members of respective local sailing clubs. The Summerset Regatta is hosted annually by the CMCS (Caloosahatchee Marching and Chowder Society) which meets monthly in Cape Coral and organizes at least one race and cruise each month in Southwest Florida. CMCS will be celebrating it’s 50th anniversary in 2020.

Presenting sponsors included Offshore Sailing School, Marine Trading Post and Rice Windows and Doors, with over 40 other businesses helping make the Regatta a success. Proceeds from the Summerset Regatta go towards youth sailing initiatives, including grants and scholarships for students at the non-profit Edison Sailing Center and Ostego Bay Foundation.

Regatta organizers Allen Fiske, Steve Romaine and James Gallagher would like to thank their committee members, each and every volunteer, the local sponsors and all participants for making 2019 one of the most successful and memorable editions of the Summerset in 54 years!
